Calculate semester GPA, cumulative GPA, and plan target grades
About the Calculator
GPA (Grade Point Average) is the standard measure of academic performance. This calculator helps you find your semester GPA, cumulative GPA across semesters, or what grades you need to reach a target GPA. It supports letter grades and weighted scales for Honors and AP/IB courses. Enter your courses and credits to get accurate results you can use for planning or scholarship applications. Use the GPA Calculator to get a clear result you can act on right away. This calculator is designed to be practical, fast, and easy to use on any device. If you are comparing options, run a few scenarios to see how small changes affect the outcome.
How to Calculate Manually
- 1Convert each grade to grade points (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.).
- 2Multiply grade points by credit hours for each course.
- 3Add all quality points together.
- 4Divide by total credit hours to get GPA.

Your Semester GPA
4.00
Based on 6 credit hours • Unweighted • 4.0 Scale
| Course | Grade | Credits | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | A+ (4.0) | 3 | 12.0 |
| Course 2 | A+ (4.0) | 3 | 12.0 |
| Total | 6 | 24.0 |
GPA = 24.0 ÷ 6 = 4.00
The Formula
Examples
A (4.0) in 3 credits + B (3.0) in 4 credits?
(12 + 12) ÷ 7 = 3.43 GPA
How to reach 3.5 cumulative from 3.25 with 60 credits done?
Use Target GPA mode: need ~3.75 in remaining 60 credits.
Tips & Strategies
Weighted GPA gives +0.5 for Honors. +1.0 for AP/IB.
Quick tip. Semester GPA is per term; cumulative includes all coursework.
Quick tip. Retaking a failed course can replace or average -check your school policy.
Cross-check when the decision matters. Run a second scenario with rounded inputs or a different path to the same quantity so you do not rely on a single fragile chain of arithmetic.
Write down units and rounding rules next to the answer. Half of spreadsheet mistakes are inconsistent units or silent rounding; noting assumptions makes the number usable a month later.
